The Four-in-Hand - tie knots or simple tie knot is one way a tie to tie.

history

The exact origin of the node is not clearly established. One theory is that coachmen tied their reins with this knot, another is that the coachmen tied their scarves in this way. The name part four ( English for four ) would come from the fact that four horses were hitched. Another possibility of origin is the Four-in-Hand Club in London, where this tie was worn and became fashionable.

In addition to the simple Windsor knot and the double Windsor knot , the four-in-hand knot is a way of tying the tie in the uniform of the United States Army .

Appearance

The four-in-hand knot is a narrow and asymmetrical tie knot. It goes with all ties and collars with the exception of very wide collars. It is described as an “elegant knot” that “fits all occasions”.

This knot is suitable for beginners because it is easy to carry out.

The tie is placed around the neck with the seam down and the wider than the longer end. The broad end is crossed over the narrow end, passed around behind the narrow end and placed once over the front. Then the broad end is placed behind the narrow end and pulled through the loop created by the rotation; the knot is tightened until it is snug against the collar. As with all tie knots, the end should be just above the belt .
