Fowler-Christmas-Chapple Syndrome

The Fowler-Christmas-Chapple syndrome , English as Fowler's Syndrome called, is a bladder dysfunction in young women due to a malfunction of the bladder sphincter and occurs more frequently associated with polycystic ovary syndrome on.

Not to be confused is Fowler's syndrome , which describes a congenital disease with a vascular change affecting the brain (zebrebral vasculopathy ) and, as a result, tissue destruction with hydrocephaly or (hydro) anencephaly .

The name refers to the first author of the first description from 1985 by the British doctor Clare J. Fowler .

distribution

The frequency is given as less than 1 in 1,000,000. On the other hand, it is said to be the most common cause of urinary retention .

clinic

Clinical features are:

  • Urinary retention
  • Residual urine
  • Abnormal muscle activity on the electromyogram
  • No apparent anatomical abnormality or neurological disorder

When complications can urinary tract infections occur.

treatment

Sacral neurostimulation or sacral neuromodulation can be used as therapy .
