Asphalt granulate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Storage of asphalt granulate in the mixing plant

Granulated asphalt describes asphalt that has been removed from asphalt by milling (so-called milling asphalt ) or by breaking it into pieces or clods with subsequent crushing as granules . Since asphalt is a thermoplastic building material, this asphalt granulate (without impurities) can be added to the asphalt mixing plant during the production of fresh asphalt .

In order for the asphalt granulate to be reused, it must be proven that it is free of harmful substances ( e.g. tar ). Granulated asphalt containing tar must not be reused and must be disposed of. Therefore only asphalt granulate of recycling class A (uncontaminated reclaimed asphalt) is permitted for recycling.
