The early decay time , EDT for short . Early decay time is a parameter of room acoustics that says something about the perceived reverberation duration ( reverberation ). When evaluating the effect of the reverberation in a closed room, it takes the subjective sound perception into account more than simply specifying the reverberation time  RT 60 .

Our subjective perception of the reverberation is mainly determined by the time shortly after the initial signal, the later reverberation, on the other hand, is usually masked by the subsequent direct sound .

The early decay time is defined as the time in which the sound pressure level of the output signal decreases by 10  dB (from 0 dB to −10 dB), i.e. can still be clearly perceived by the ear, even while the music is "running" ( running reverberation ) .
