François Yakan

François Yakan (* 1958 in south-eastern Turkey ) is Patriarchal Vicar of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Turkey.

Life

François Yakan studied economics in Istanbul, later philosophy, theology and the languages ​​and cultures of Central Asia in Paris. After his ordination of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Paris, he returned to Turkey.

François Yakan was appointed Patriarchal Vicar of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Turkey in 2004. From 2007 to 2008 he was also the administrator of the Diarbekir (Amida) Archeparchy of the Chaldeans. As a representative of the Chaldean Catholic Church united with Rome, he is a member of the Turkish Catholic Bishops' Conference .

Yakan is a co-founder of the Assyro-Chaldean charity KASDER, which takes care of refugees from Iraq in Istanbul, Beirut, Damascus, Amman and Geneva . He is the author of the Ecumenical Peace Prayer 2008 “Love of neighbor urges and calls us”.
