Francis Mansel

Sir Francis Mansel, 1st Baronet (also Francis Maunsell ), (* around 1570, † around 1628) was a Welsh nobleman.

Francis Mansel came from the old Welsh Mansel family . He was the third son of Sir Edward Mansel and Jane Somerset, daughter of Henry Somerset, 2nd Earl of Worcester . He and his older brother Anthony Mansel married Mary and Catherine Morgan , the daughters and heiresses of Henry Morgan , the owner of Muddlescombe at Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire . Francis Mansel came into joint ownership of the estate, and his wife also inherited the Llandeilo Abercywyn estate near Llangynog . From 1594 to 1595 and from 1610 to 1611 Mansel served as Sheriff of Carmarthenshire. On January 14, 1622 he was given the hereditary title of Baronet , of Muddlescombe in the County of Carmarthen. In the 1620s there was an argument between Mansel and his brother-in-law Walter Rice , Lord of Newton House , who owed him over £ 2,000 in debt. At times Mansel took over the administration of the Rice estates in Carmarthenshire.

From his marriage to Catherine Morgan he had several children, including four sons:

Since his brother Anthony and his wife Mary died with no surviving descendants, Francis Mansel's eldest son Walter Muddlescombe inherited.

After the death of his first wife, Francis Mansel married Dorothy Stepney , a daughter of Alban Stepney and Mary Philipps from Prendergast , Pembrokeshire . With her he had at least five other children, including
