Francisco Aguilar Piñal

Francisco Aguilar Piñal (born March 6, 1931 in Seville ) is a Spanish Hispanist . He is one of the most prominent and well-known researchers on the Spanish Enlightenment.

Live and act

Aguilar Piñal was born the oldest of five children. He studied philosophy and philology in Murcia and at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid . In 1962 he received his doctorate in Madrid.

After working as a Spanish teacher at the Universidad Menéndez Pelayo in Santander (1963), he became research director at the Instituto de España in London (1963–1966). He then switched to teaching at the Universidad Complutense (1967-70) and at the CSIC ( Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas ) in Madrid. He stayed there until his retirement (1996).

His special research focus is bibliographical studies for the time of the Enlightenment. Aguilar Piñal has received numerous awards for his work. In 2001 he was awarded the Order of Alfonso X the Wise .

Aguilar Piñal has been married since 1964, has three children and now lives in Madrid.
