Francisco José de Castro or Francesco Giuseppe de Castro lo spagnuolo (* after 1670, † around 1730) was a composer of Spanish origin living in Italy .

Live and act

Francisco José de Castro was of noble origin and studied at the Jesuit college "Collegio de 'Nobili" in Brescia . He had music lessons with Paris Francesco Alghisi (1666–1733), the conductor of the college. While still a student he published a collection of 10 three- and four-movement trio sonatas under the title Trattenimenti Armonici da camera op. 1, which was printed in 1695 by the publisher Monti in Bologna and was dedicated to the Principe des Collegio, Count Gaetano Giovanelli. The sonatas follow the Fugato style of Arcangelo Corelli's chamber sonatas ; they begin with a preludio, followed by up to three dance movements. A copy of the sonatas is in the Biblioteca del Liceo Musicale di Bologna.

1708 also appeared in Bologna under the pseudonym "Accademico Formato", the 8 Concerti op. 4 under the title Concerti accademici à quattro, cioè un 'oboè, due violini, e violone, con la parte per il cembalo , possibly by de Castro were written.

It is questionable whether the musician at the court of the Grand Duke of Florence, Franciscus de Castris, noted in Johann Gottfried Walther's Musicalisches Lexicon or Musicalische Bibliothec , who died in Rome in October 1724 and left a relative of a fortune of 100,000 thalers, was the same Person acts.

Discography
