Franco Knie senior (born September 8, 1954 ), actually Franz Knie , is a Swiss circus director and elephant trainer . He led from 1992 together with his cousin Fredy Knie Jr. the Circus Knie and the technical director of the company was. In 2016 his son Franco Knie junior took over this task.

Life

Franco Knie comes from the sixth generation of the Knie circus family and is the son of Rolf Knie senior (1921–1997) and Genoveffa «Tina» di Giovanni (1921–2011). His uncle was Fredy Knie senior .

Tina di Giovanni always refused to call her son by his normal name Franz and instead always called him Franco . This has been adopted by the general public.

He learned his trade as an elephant trainer from his father Rolf Knie senior and is one of the best elephant trainers in the world. In 2006 he performed with his elephants at the Monte Carlo Circus Festival . In the 2008 circus season he performed his elephant number with six Asian elephants together with his son Franco Knie junior and his wife Linna Knie-Sun.

Knie is married for the third time. The first wife was Doris Agostini (* 1941), from this marriage came the two children Franco Knie, called Franco Knie junior (* 1978) and Doris Désirée Knie (* 1980). The second wife was Claudine Rey (* 1949), from this marriage comes Anthony Knie (* 1989). The third wife is Claudia Uez (* 1967), he met her in 2004. From this marriage come the twins Nina Maria Dora and Timothy Charles (* 2009). Knie is friends with the Monegasque Princess Stéphanie von Monaco, whom he has known since she was twelve. At times they were a couple.
