history

The Franz Club was founded on January 1st, 1970 by the city district as the Erich Franz youth club . Well-known and unknown bands played here every evening. The club was able to establish itself as a niche for the East Berlin music scene and very quickly became a crowd puller. After reunification, bands like Steppenwolf , Pankow and Jazzkantine played here . In addition, the reunification concert of the band Renft took place here.

On August 1, 1997, the club closed due to increased rental prices. In September 2004 the restaurant " frannz " with the attached " frannz Club " opened at the same location , which according to its own statements tries to " follow in the footsteps of the legendary Franz Club ".
