location
The embassy is located in the administrative district centers in the district of Moscow Yakimanka on the Large-Yakimanka Street (Большая Якиманка) 43-45.
history
The French embassy in Russia was located in Saint Petersburg until diplomatic relations between France and Soviet Russia were broken off in 1918 . After relations were restored in 1924, the embassy in Moscow was opened. From 1938 it was based in the Igumnow mansion on Grosse Jakimanka Street in the historical Samoskvorechye district . This house (Great Jakimanka 43) was built in 1895 by the architect Nikolai Posdeew, at that time one of the most important architects of the city of Yaroslavl , on behalf of the merchant Nikolai Igumnov . The magnificent building, built in the pseudo-Russian style from Dutch bricks, is now a cultural monument of federal importance . After diplomatic relations were broken off again in July 1941, the diplomatic mission was reopened on December 9, 1944 by Charles de Gaulle . Among other things, he honored pilots of the Normandy- Nyemen squadron with war medals; A plaque on the facade was dedicated to this event in 2004. In 1979, a new embassy building (No. 45) was built next to the Igumnow House by the architect Josef Belmont; Since then, the Igumnow House has served as the ambassador's residence and as a residential building for other employees (the house has more than 40 rooms). Between 2008 and 2014 the Igumnow House was extensively restored.
The visa section is not far from the embassy at 10 Kazansky Street.
Sylvie-Agnès Bermann has been the French ambassador since 2017 .
