history

The initiator of the French Film Days was Stefan Paul , who ran the cinema in the Grassimuseum and was head of the Arsenal film distribution and the Passage Kinos in Leipzig. From 1999 to 2004 the festival was organized by the cut-FilmPresse & MovieEvents agency , and since then by the “French Film Days Leipzig / Halle” project group .

After the demand for this range of programs soon exceeded the capacity of the Grassi cinema, further cinemas could be won to participate, initially NaTo and the Schaubühne Lindenfels . In 1999 the festival was extended to the greater Halle-Leipzig area, with the arthouse cinema 188 , a venue in Halle was included for the first time, and two more were added in 2000 and 2002. After the closing of the Grassi cinema, the main venue will be the Passage cinemas .
