The French Industrial Exhibition of 1844 (officially: Exposition des produits de l'industrie française en 1844 ) was the first of a series of industrial exhibitions that took place in Paris from 1844 to 1849 .

The exhibition was shown in the Palais de l'Industrie et des Beaux-Arts, which was specially built in the lower area of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées . The purpose of this and other industrial exhibitions of the time was to present the progress in agricultural and industrial technology to a broad audience. Impressed by the exhibition in Paris, members of the British Royal Society of Arts endeavored to hold an exhibition as well, leading to the Great Exhibition , which opened in London in 1851 . The Paris exhibition thus became the forerunner of the world exhibitions .
