from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Franz Goerlich (* before 1866 in Neustadt in Upper Silesia ; † January 30, 1908 ) was a German bookseller and publisher.

His apprenticeship and traveling years took him from his home town to Sagan, Münster i. W., Brno and Essen ad Ruhr. When he was an assistant, he published an assistant address book and wanted to become a publisher.

On September 1, 1866, he and his friend Carl Coch founded the Goerlich & Coch book and art shop in Breslau . As a general bookseller, he began to publish works. In 1871 he opened a branch in Bytom.

Koch died in 1873 and he sold the Beuthen branch to Oscar Waeldner and his bookstore to Ulrich Putze, who in 1887 sold it to Gustav Wolff. He was now able to devote himself to his publishing ventures and was able to draw on authors whose works had high editions over the years. These included music-theoretical works by seminar senior teacher music director Bernhard Kothe, arithmetic books by seminar senior teacher L. Heinze and seminar director Hübner, as well as humorous works in Silesian dialect by Rector Hermann Bauch. He founded various newspapers and magazines, such as the Catholic school newspaper for Northern Germany and the practice of the Catholic elementary school .

He worked as a board member in political and social associations and was twice appointed to the city council of Wroclaw.
