Mrs. von Brill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A grave find from the Middle Bronze Age in the area of the municipality of Dunum in East Friesland is called Frau von Brill . For the first time, grave attachments made of metal were discovered there, which are otherwise missing in the region from this period.

The discovery

During the Middle Bronze Age, Frau von Brill was buried on a hilltop of today's Briller Gaste, which has apparently been used as a burial place since the Stone Age. Before the funeral, she was laid in a tree coffin made from a split and hollowed trunk, of which only traces could be found.

In contrast to other finds dated to this period, her grave was richly decorated. Curly or temple rings, a bronze choker , several small bronze cones that probably belonged to a chain, a pearl necklace made of amber , a wheel needle with a double rim , which probably closed a cloak or cloak on the chest, and a longitudinally ribbed bronze one were found Bracelet.

Scientific analysis

It is believed that the woman enjoyed a high reputation during her lifetime, as she was buried with all her jewelry. The rich furnishings indicate that the people of this time obviously saw life in the hereafter as a continuation of life on earth and placed everything that was considered important in the grave. Comparisons with similar finds such as that of the girl from Egtved or the princess von Fallingbostel in the Lüneburg Heath suggest that the woman was dressed in a smock, a skirt and a coat made of woven sheep's wool.
