Dunum is a municipality in the Esens municipality in the Wittmund district in Lower Saxony . The municipality had about 1150 inhabitants in 2004 and covers an area of ​​26.83 square kilometers. Legend has it that the Frisian king Radbod is buried in Dunum on the so-called Radbodsberg .

In the village of Dunum there is a brick church from the 13th century. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1420. The beginnings of the Reformation in Harlingerland go back to the time after 1525, when Ricardo Hicco began to preach in Dunum according to an evangelical order of worship.

The district of Brill with a larger settlement from the Roman Empire also belongs to the municipality . The grave of Frau von Brill from the Bronze Age, which is considered to be one of the most important finds of this period in East Frisia, was also discovered in the municipality .
