Middels is a district of Aurich in the Aurich district in East Friesland , Lower Saxony .

geography

Middels is located south of the B 210 between Aurich and Wittmund . The local government reform in the 1970s made the place part of the city of Aurich. The separation between the Osterloog and Westerloog is striking. Middels is geographically located on the Oldenburg-East Frisian Geestplatte . Sands , loam , marl and rubble form the subsoil.

history

The East Frisian Geest has been settled since the early Middle Ages . This early settlement can also be proven in Middels. The town centers in Middels Oster- and Westerloog emerged in the 10th century. The changes in the cultivation of the arable land were decisive. In connection with the intensification of rye cultivation in the 10th century, the settlement centers also emerged. The main cultivation area of the old Geest villages was the guests (strip-like fields). In Middels, for a long time, there is evidence of mountain farming (block-like arable land) parallel to guest farming. The planned local cores (Loog) had a Thieplatz (also Thingplatz ) in the center , which served as a meeting place for the local rural customs. The church was built around 1200 between Middels Osterloog and Westerloog . In 1892 a treasure trove made of Roman coins was discovered while plowing in Osterloog.

The community of Middels was created on April 1, 1939 in the district of Aurich from the merger of the three communities of Middels-Osterloog , Middels-Westerloog and Ogenbargen . On July 1, 1972, Middels was incorporated into the city of Aurich.

politics

Middels has a five-person local council together with the districts of Langefeld and Spekendorf .

The local mayor is Arnold Gossel (CDU).

The church also has an apse (semicircular choir extension), the substructure of which is also made of granite stones. The south portal is walled up, the church is accessible again through the north portal. The church also has a central west entrance. The organ was built by Hinrich Just Müller in 1784–1786 . The free-standing bell tower is also located on the cemetery grounds, right by the church.
