Rahe is a district of the district town of Aurich in the Aurich district in East Friesland , Lower Saxony .

geography

The district consists of the places Rahe and Rahestermoor. It is surrounded by the three neighboring districts of Extum, Haxtum and Kirchdorf and also borders the district of Westerende-Kirchloog in the municipality of Ihlow .

history

The settlement of the place probably started from the neighboring villages Extum and Haxtum , which are among the oldest villages in the Auricherland . However, Rahe shows “all cultural and geographical features of old age”, which is why the place was probably founded in the early Middle Ages, but at the latest in the High Middle Ages. The first documented mention of Rahes comes from the year 1408 as Rode , which indicates that the forests in the Geest area were cleared during the Middle Ages . The first mention in the current spelling is attested to the year 1645. In the High Middle Ages, the area had a supra-local importance: This is where the Upstalsboom was located , at which representatives from the various Frisian regional communities met for deliberations until the 14th century .

In 1965, seven years before the Lower Saxony regional reform , the four then independent communities Extum , Haxtum , Rahe and Kirchdorf merged to form the Upstalsboom community. This lasted seven years, since the Lower Saxony municipal reform, which came into force on July 1, 1972, Rahe zu Aurich belongs. The adjective for Rahe is Rahester.
