geology

Ogenbargen is geographically located on a foothill of the Geest . Sands, loams and rubble form the subsoil.

history

Ogenbargen is not a typical East Frisian church village. The place belonged to the parish of Middels and used to be part of the municipality of Middels. As a central traffic junction, the place was for a long time the seat of a national post office. The stagecoaches to Esens , Wittmund and Aurich ran from Ogenbargen . In the surrounding villages, the old postal routes are still declared as street names.

The Leer – Aurich – Wittmund small railway forked in Ogenbargen to Esens and to the ferry terminal in Bensersiel . The railway agent was based in the Ogenbarger Gasthof "Zur Post" (Gossel), the railway stop was north of today's federal road 210 . The track systems were dismantled at the end of the 1960s. Today the railway line to Esens is known as part of the Ostfriesland hiking trail .

Even today the place with its small parceled parcels is characterized by agriculture.

development

The old Gasthof zur Post, formerly Gasthof Gossel , has been converted into a comfortable hotel complex in recent years and mainly accommodates foreign guests.

An agricultural cooperative with a petrol station is also located in the village. Ogenbargen still benefits today from its central location at the intersection of transport routes.

traffic

Ogenbargen is on federal highway 210 between the cities of Aurich and Wittmund . The main road to Esens also leads from Ogenbargen .
