Women from the Don
The Union of Women of the Don (Russian Союс "Женщины Дона", English Union of the Women of the Don ) is a non-governmental organization in Novocherkassk in Russia that campaigns for the rights of women and children.
history
The Don Women’s Association was founded in 1993 and officially registered in 1994. Since then, Valentina Tscherewatenko has been the director . In 1995 she opened a counseling center for women in problematic situations.
In 2014 it was registered with the Russian Ministry of Justice as an "organization performing the function of a foreign agent" because it had received financial support from abroad. In 2015 she was able to have the registration canceled again.
Their director, Valentin Chervatenko, was still charged for not doing the registration voluntarily. She faces two years in prison.
activities
The organization mainly offers legal and psychological advice and support for women in emergency situations. Another important concern is the support of children and young people and the strengthening of their rights. The Association of Women of the Don runs courses and seminars for women in which it wants to help them learn about and enforce their rights. She holds conferences and information events and goes to schools to educate students about their rights and offer them support.
The Association of Women from the Don works with national and international non-governmental organizations such as Memorial and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation .
