Fraunhofer Venture

Fraunhofer Venture is a central department of the Fraunhofer Society. It supports people who want to set up their own company ( spin-off ) with a technology developed within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and is a partner of founders, start-ups , Fraunhofer institutes , industry and investors . With access to Fraunhofer technologies, infrastructure and know-how with over 5,200 patent families, it offers young companies the opportunity to establish their products on the market faster and better. The range of services offered by Fraunhofer Venture includes complete support and advice from the idea to the establishment of a company , support in the search for financing and the possible sale of the company, and is flanked by various funding programs and other offers.

The main tasks include the evaluation of the business model and the search for financial, cooperation and industrial partners. With the help of its own network, the team can offer excellent support, especially when looking for suitable financing partners. In addition to supporting scientists from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft environment, Fraunhofer Venture also offers external start-ups and SMEs access to interesting Fraunhofer technologies.

It was started as a pilot in 1999 and established in 2001 as an independent department within the headquarters of the Fraunhofer Society in Munich. As of 2017, around 500 spin-off projects have been processed since Fraunhofer Venture was founded, resulting in around 350 companies. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has a legal stake in around half of the companies.
