List of Fraunhofer institutes and facilities
The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft today consists of more than 80 research facilities, 69 of which are institutes.
Institutes
The names of the 70 institutes mentioned here must be preceded by “Fraunhofer Institute for”; only the headquarters are given, any parts of the institute or branch offices in other locations can be found in the articles. Fraunhofer facilities are specially marked. When existing institutes are incorporated into the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the year of establishment refers to the year of this incorporation.
Other institutions are:
- Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics (CSP), Halle
- Fraunhofer Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT), Dresden
- Fraunhofer Institute for Marine Biotechnology (EMB), Lübeck
- Fraunhofer Institute for Foundry, Composite and Processing Technology (IGCV), Augsburg
- Fraunhofer Institute for Microsystems and Solid State Technologies (EMFT), Munich
- Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy (IMW), Leipzig
- Fraunhofer Academy , Munich
- Fraunhofer Center for High-Temperature Lightweight Construction (HTL), Bayreuth
- Fraunhofer Center for Maritime Logistics and Services , Hamburg
- Center for Research in Security and Privacy (CRISP), Darmstadt
- Fraunhofer facility for large structures in production technology (IGP), Rostock
Application centers
In cooperation with universities of applied sciences, Fraunhofer institutes operate several application centers:
- Application center for resource efficiency of Fraunhofer ISC-IWKS at Aschaffenburg University
- Application Center for Wind Energy Field Measurements (AWF) of Fraunhofer IWES at Bremerhaven University
- Application center for wireless sensors of Fraunhofer IIS at the Coburg University
- Application center CT in the measurement technology of Fraunhofer IIS at TH Deggendorf
- Application center Competence center for energy and information technology mobility interfaces (KEIM) of the Fraunhofer IAO at the University of Esslingen
- Application center for plasma and photonics of the Fraunhofer IST at the HAWK Göttingen
- Application center power electronics for regenerative energy systems of the Fraunhofer ISIT at the HAW Hamburg
- Fraunhofer application center for logistics system planning and information systems in Cottbus

- Application center for inorganic phosphors of the Fraunhofer IWM at the FH Südwestfalen in Soest
- Application center for surface technologies and optical metrology of the Fraunhofer IWS in Zwickau
The Fraunhofer innovation clusters represent a special form of organization . One or more Fraunhofer institutes, other research institutions such as universities or technical colleges and industrial partners are networked with one another.
Fraunhofer International
In addition to the institutes in Germany, there are other Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft centers around the world.
- Fraunhofer Chalmers Center for Industrial Mathematics, Gothenburg - FCC
- On 21 May 2019 were at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem , the two research centers for cyber security and health, the Fraunhofer Project Center for Cyber Security at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Fraunhofer Project Center for Drug Discovery and Delivery at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem , opened .
The branch in the USA, Fraunhofer USA, comprises the following seven centers:
- Coatings and Laser Applications - CCL
- Experimental Software Engineering - CESE
- Laser Technology - CLT
- Molecular Biotechnology - CMB
- Manufacturing Innovation - CMI
- Sustainable Energy Systems - CSE
- Digital Media Technologies - DMT
