Fraunhofer Academy

The Fraunhofer Academy in Munich was founded in 2006 and is an institution of the Fraunhofer Society for external training . It is made up of the Fraunhofer Institutes and an office at the Fraunhofer headquarters in Munich. Currently, 17 different Fraunhofer institutes and their respective cooperation partners offer part-time courses, certificate programs and seminars under the umbrella of the Fraunhofer Academy.

On June 23, 2005, the heads of government of the federal and state governments adopted the Pact for Research and Innovation , which aims to increase funding for the large science and research organizations jointly funded by the federal and state governments. In the course of this, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft created regional innovation clusters between its research institutes and founded the Fraunhofer Technology Academy to promote knowledge transfer between research and industry. In 2009 it was renamed to its current name. When it was founded in 2006, the Fraunhofer Academy consisted of four Fraunhofer Institutes with five advanced training programs and the office. It now comprises 17 partner institutes that offer a total of 27 further training programs.

With its courses of study, certificate programs and seminars, the educational institution is aimed at specialists and executives from industry and business who, in addition to their job, want to continue their education in a technological subject, as well as at companies that qualify employees and thus their competitiveness on the international market Want to increase market. Findings from the application-oriented research institutes at the Fraunhofer Academy are incorporated into all of the advanced training courses at the Fraunhofer Academy. The educational institution offers continuing education programs in five focus areas:

Degree courses, certificate programs and seminars

The offer includes, on the one hand, in-service academic further education (courses of study, university certificates) and, on the other hand, professional further education offers (certificate programs, seminars). Longer-term programs such as degree programs are mainly offered as distance learning or blended learning programs, certificate programs and seminars can be completed in face-to-face classes in block courses. The content-related focal points are based on the thematic range of the researching Fraunhofer institutes. Professional experience, in some cases management experience, is required for all further training programs.

Some of the 17 Fraunhofer Institutes in the Fraunhofer Academy have been running further training for years or are in the process of developing new further training courses.

In the field of scientific further education, the educational institution cooperates with colleges and universities in Germany and Switzerland:

The universities take on formal aspects such as enrollment, administration and the awarding of academic degrees and certificates in the academic continuing education programs. The course content, lecturers and practical laboratories are provided by the Fraunhofer institutes and universities alike. The certification courses and seminars are designed, managed and carried out by the Fraunhofer Institutes on their own responsibility. The office of the Fraunhofer Academy supports the further training offers of the Fraunhofer institutes through central marketing and consulting activities.
