The Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy IMW is a non-university research institution of the Fraunhofer Society and is based in Leipzig . The research activities are assigned to applied research and development in the fields of economics , political and social sciences . The center was founded in 2006. The institute emerged from the repositioning of the Fraunhofer Center for Central and Eastern Europe .
Realignment
Since it was founded in 2006, the Fraunhofer Center initially focused on Central and Eastern Europe. As part of the strategic realignment in 2015, the institute expanded its research activities to other regions in the world and has been renamed the Fraunhofer Center for International Management and Knowledge Economy.
Research priorities
The institute focuses on issues relating to the internationalization of research, development and innovation. Key trends from the perspective of the Fraunhofer IMW are in particular the global development of knowledge society (knowledge economy), the global shift in the generation of value added (value creation) and the increasing awareness of the need, sustainable development promote regional and global (sustainable development) . The Leipzig Fraunhofer Institute supports its clients and customers from business, science and politics in successfully mastering the challenges associated with these trends.
Departments
The Fraunhofer Center consists of two departments that result from the centre's main research areas: “Corporate development in international competition” and “Knowledge and technology transfer”.
I. Department: Corporate Development in International Competition
The areas of responsibility of the 1st department "Corporate Development in International Competition" include:
Business model engineering and standardization
- strategic positioning and business model audit
- Business model innovations.
- Price and service management
Development of innovative revenue models
- Price and product optimization
- Development and quality management of services.
- Qualification and competence management
Conception and implementation of competence management models
- "Human personnel management" (personnel recruitment, development and personnel deployment planning, work-life balance, preventive work and health management, diversity management, culture-specific personnel management)
- Learning process management
II. Department: Knowledge and Technology Transfer
The 2nd department "Knowledge and Technology Transfer" deals with:
Professionalization of knowledge transfer processes
- Organization of knowledge and technology transfer services
- Processes, structures and actors in public transfer funding
- Science communication and "Participatory Research"
Innovation financing
- Implementation of financing strategies and instruments, especially in the context of EU projects.
- Analysis of tailor-made financing options for innovators and international investors
- Further development and cross-border transfer of alternative financing instruments, especially in the area of environmental innovations
Innovation acceptance
- Development of innovative methods for coping with the energy transition-related transformation processes in companies, regions and nations
- Social acceptance research with regard to innovative technologies in the energy sector
- Integrated evaluation of infrastructure projects and implementation of stakeholder dialogues
- Scientific support for international negotiations in the field of environmental protection
Infrastructure
The institute has been headed by Thorsten Posselt since February 2008. He is also the holder of the chair for innovation management and innovation economics at the economics faculty of the University of Leipzig . The institute employs around 80 people, who are supported by around 100 research assistants.
