The Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) is an institute of the Fraunhofer Society in Kaiserslautern .
Fraunhofer IESE in Kaiserslautern is a research institution in the field of software and system development methods and has around 250 employees. Main research departments
Embedded Systems
The main department Embedded Systems researches methods and procedures for the development and protection of embedded systems and cyber-physical systems. The range includes development methods for safety-critical applications, methods and procedures of model-based systems engineering as well as simulation-based technologies for virtual validation.
Smart digital solutions
The main quality management department offers techniques and services for the development and operation of software and associated infrastructures for the private and municipal sectors. Mainly methods of data analysis, artificial intelligence and methods of software development for municipal applications are researched.
Information Systems
The Information Systems main department deals with holistic software development and the development of digital ecosystems. Here, topics related to user experience, requirements elicitation, data usage control and architecture-based software development for scalable software systems are advanced.

A primary goal of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the sustainable anchoring of scientific research results in industrial applications.
