The Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics (CSP) is an institution of the Fraunhofer Society and is based in Halle . The Fraunhofer CSP was founded in 2007 as a joint facility of the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM (today Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS ) and for Solar Energy Systems ISE .

The Fraunhofer CSP conducts applied research in the areas of silicon crystallization, PV 4.0, solar cell characterization and module technology. The focus of the research services and projects is the reliability assessment of solar cells, modules and systems under laboratory and operating conditions as well as the chemical, electrical, optical and micro-structural characterization of materials and components. State-of-the-art research and analysis equipment is available for this.

research

At the Halle (Saale) and Schkopau locations, the Fraunhofer CSP develops new technologies, manufacturing processes and product concepts along the entire photovoltaic value chain. Based on its core competence, the elucidation of failure mechanisms, the institute develops measurement methods, devices and manufacturing processes for components and materials with increased reliability. Research and development is organized into five subject areas in which similar projects are bundled.

Infrastructure

The Fraunhofer CSP is a joint facility of the Fraunhofer IMWS and the Fraunhofer ISE. At the end of 2018, around 80 people were employed. The operating budget in the 2018 financial year was 5.9 million euros.
