Dieter Grünewald (born April 27, 1957 in St. Wendel ) was State Secretary ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) in the Saarland Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Transport.

After graduating from high school, Grünewald completed a diploma course in geography with a minor in economics from 1978–1991. He wrote his diploma thesis on the subject of "Saarlouis-Dillingen Harbor". He then attended the German Employee Academy (DAA) in Saarbrücken from 1992 to 1993 and passed his exam as a traffic planner. From 1997 to 1998 Grünewald received further training in the area of ​​corporate management as part of a training course at the Saarland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK). There he successfully passed his exam in 1998 on the subject of "Management of a company in road passenger transport in national and international traffic".

Dieter Grünewald lives in Saarbrücken. He is married and has two children.

Professional background

From 1980 Grünewald was a research associate in the Saarland state projects "aerial photo evaluation", "aerial photo archive", "inventory of buildings worth preserving in rural areas" and "subsequent use of abandoned coal and steel industry areas in Saarland and Lorraine". From 1986 to 1989 he was a research assistant for Erika Trenz, member of the Bundestag, in the Green Group . He then worked for two years in the city administration of the district town of Neunkirchen (Saar) in the area of ​​urban development.
In 1993 he moved to Verkehrsverbundgesellschaft Saar mbH VGS, then in 2000 to RSW Regionalbus Saar-Westpfalz GmbH, of which he became managing director in 2003. In 2006 the Saarland and West Palatinate transport associations merged to form the corporate association West Palatinate UVW, whose management Grünewald took over until 2009. In November 2009 Grünewald was appointed State Secretary in the Saarland Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Transport under Minister Simone Peter .
