Fraunkäferln is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 99). The work was first performed on August 27, 1851 in Ungers Casino in Vienna.

Remarks

The name of the waltz probably goes back to a genus of ladybirds. It is possible that Strauss was inspired by a poem of the same name by Anton Freiherr von Klesheim for this name. The work was intended as a counterpart to his waltz Johannis-Käferln , published the previous year . It was to be premiered as part of the Hernalser Kirchtag at a concert in Ungers Casino. Because of the constant rain, the premiere was postponed for a few days and made up at the planned location on August 27th. The waltz was well received, but in the long term could not make the big breakthrough to the repertoire piece.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 43 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
