Johannis beetles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannis-Käferln is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 82). The work was performed for the first time on July 28, 1850 in the Zögernitz Casino in Oberdöbling (Vienna).

Remarks

The waltz, held in the country style, was composed on the occasion of a large folk festival in the Zögernitz Casino and premiered there. Due to bad weather, the concert was repeated on August 4, 1850. Strauss made a great effort and was able to successfully prove in this work that he also mastered counterpoint. Musically, the glow of the glow worms (Johannis beetles) is imitated. The work has stood the test of time and is still performed occasionally today.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 10 minutes and 29 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can vary by up to about a minute plus or minus.
