FreeBSD Foundation

The FreeBSD Foundation is a United States registered non-profit organization (official name: 501 (c) (3) ). She is dedicated to supporting the FreeBSD project and its community. It draws its financial resources from donations from individuals and companies. These are mainly used to finance FreeBSD developers for certain project-related activities, to buy hardware and network infrastructure , to provide travel grants for developer meetings and to financially support the organization of community meetings such as the BSDCons. The FreeBSD Foundation is able to be a legal representative of the FreeBSD project and to sign contracts and agreements on its behalf. It is owned by the FreeBSD trademark and associated domain name .

The FreeBSD Foundation was granted 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit status on December 7, 2000. Its establishment was formally publicly announced on June 27, 2001.
