Freedom. A plea is a book by the eleventh German President Joachim Gauck , which was published on February 20, 2012, the day after his nomination. In the 64-page book, Gauck describes his thoughts on the topics of freedom , democracy , human rights and tolerance . The book calls for people to defend freedom and human rights around the world, especially in “communist, fanatically Islamist or arbitrary states”. He also defends the market economy .

The book is seen as his political program, and he also looks back at the peaceful revolutions of 1989 .
