Freiherr von Scheurl's library

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Freiherr von Scheurl'sche Bibliothek (also Scheurl'sche Bibliothek ) was a Nuremberg book collection that was located in the Germanic Museum there. The collection, created in the first half of the 16th century by the lawyer Christoph II. Scheurl (1481–1542), was part of the cultural and historical holdings of the house and comprised around 500 volumes.

In 1890, the city library was given the Freiherr von Scheurl'sche Library by handing over the property subject to retention of title, which , however , was brought back by the family during the Second World War . These stocks burned in their house on Burgstrasse in January 1945.

The younger Scheurl library ( Scheurl library ) is owned by a family foundation . This was founded by Christoph von Scheurl (1666–1740). In 1932 the Evangelical Regional Church bought the Scheurl library, almost all of the books from the 17th and 18th centuries.

During the Second World War, the city council's refusal to provide packaging material and space for all books printed later than 1540 meant that the books remained in the house. Only 203 volumes were preserved because they had previously been submitted to the aforementioned regional church archive of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . Nine more preserved volumes were added to the “old” library in a supplementary list.
