Florian Favre (* 1986 in Montagny-les-Monts ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( piano , composition ).

Live and act

Favre began taking piano lessons at the age of eight. From an early age he felt drawn to improvised music. He studied at the Friborg Conservatory with Richard Pizzorno (diploma with distinction in 2007). From 2007 to 2010 he studied jazz piano at the Bern University of the Arts with Silvano Bazan , William Evans , Thierry Lang and Colin Vallon . He then studied composition with Frank Sikora , Django Bates and Dieter Ammann in the master’s course in Bern .

In 2008 he founded the quartet Help! With Jonathan Maag, Jeremias Keller and Alex Maurer . . In 2011 the Florian Favre Trio was created ; In 2013 bassist Manu Hagmann joined, followed by Kevin Chesham and Arthur Hnatek on drums with Arthur Alard. With this trio he performed at numerous festivals in Europe. Together with percussionist Simon Baumann he formed the improvisation duo Baumon Favre Jukebox . He also toured with Fred Heisler's Magnetband, Kutti Mc and Stefan Eicher . He can also be heard on albums with Loraine Cotting, Fabio Pinto, Joscha Arnold and Elisa Day and has appeared with Joshua Redman and with the Swiss Jazz Orchestra .

Favre composes for the Friborg Jazz Orchestra , Pamela Mendez and for the educational project School Moves .

Prizes and awards

Favre won with the Help! the first prize of the JazzMa Young stage (2008) and 2010 of the Biberacher Jazzpreis . As a soloist he won the 2011 Piano Competition at the Jazzhaus in Freiburg im Breisgau. With his trio, he won not only the main prize at the 2016 B-Jazz Contest in Leuwen, Belgium, but also the prize as best soloist and the Sabam for Culture Prize for the interpretation of the piece Eternal July by Piotr Matusik.
