Overhead line crossing

The overhead line crossing of the Suez Canal consists of two 221 meter high support masts designed as steel lattice structures about eight kilometers north of the mouth of the Suez Canal in Port Taufiq near Suez . They are equipped with three traverses to accommodate six conductor cables for 500 kV and were erected in 1998.

In addition, these masts have a fourth crossbar below the crossbars with the conductor cables in order to catch the conductor cables falling down in the event of an insulator breakage.

Despite the small span of 600 meters, such high masts were necessary, as a passage height of 150 meters is required for ship traffic with a maximum height of 68 m on the Suez Canal.
