Volunteer day
A volunteer day offers interested parties the chance once, briefly and voluntarily without further obligation for charity volunteer to get involved. Participation and getting to know the volunteer projects is the main focus on one day. Associations, initiatives and non-profit organizations develop hands-on activities that show the variety of engagement opportunities. This form of engagement is particularly suitable for those interested in volunteering who do not have time for permanent engagement in everyday life. In more than 100 cities and municipalities in Germany, between 100 and 6000 people take part each year, depending on the region. In addition to regional volunteer days, companies and associations organize internal days of action to promote volunteering.
history
The idea of the volunteer days comes from the USA, where they are known as the day of caring or make a difference day . In Germany, the first volunteer day took place in 2001 in Berlin on the occasion of the International Year of Volunteers on the initiative of the Berlin State Volunteer Agency, meeting point helpfulness . The following year, Berlin, Kassel and Hamburg held a volunteer day. From 2003 on, the idea spread nationwide. Back then, Bavaria called for a nationwide volunteer day, so that smaller cities and districts also took part for the first time.
