Ferret hunting
Ferrets hunting ( Frettieren ) is a type of hunting which, with the ferret hunt under the ground on rabbits is operated. The hunter is also called a freezer here . Ferret hunting is not an invention of modern times, because this species of marten was trained and used to hunt mice, rats and rabbits in ancient times .
Like any other form of hunting in Germany, ferret hunting is only permitted with a hunting license according to the Federal Hunting Act.
execution
The hunter puts the ferret in the rabbit hole. It chases the rabbits out of the den , and they are then shot down by the hunter with a shotgun or caught in special nets ("explosive nets") or wire traps. Ferrets are often used by falconers to have the rabbit fleeing from the burrow "tied" by a hawk . Freezing with nets is of particular importance for city hunters who can use this to hunt rabbits in inhabited areas and in cemeteries silently, without firing a shot and without endangering other people in confusing terrain. The ferret follows the scent trail of the fleeing rabbit and is then expected by the hunter at the exit of the burrow.
