Frictional Games is an independent game developer based in Helsingborg ( Sweden ). The leading team consists of Thomas Grip and Jens Nilsson, and people outside the company are also employed for other core elements such as music or storytelling.
To date, Frictional Games is especially for their computer games in Adventure - and survival horror - genre known. They are based on the in-house HPL engine . Penumbra , their first computer game, was initially supposed to be just a technical demonstration for the engine. An outstanding feature for their games are the physical effects, which should enable the player to be more immersed . Penumbra: Overture (German title: Penumbra - Im Halbschatten ) was the game developer's first commercial title.
On September 22nd, 2015, Frictional Games released the sci-fi horror title SOMA for Windows , Mac OS X , Linux and PS4 , which has been in development since 2010.
