The Friedenskirche is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Göttingen .

history

The church is located on the southwestern edge of the site of the medieval Palatinate Grona .

The Friedenskirchengemeinde was created on October 1st, 1951 by the parish of the Evangelical Lutheran residents of the III. Pastoral care district of the Marienkirche community .

In 1954 the parish was divided and the southern part was transferred to the newly founded Christ Parish; the Bethlehem parish on the Holtenser Berg became independent in 1986.

Church building

The simple hall church on the Kleiner Hagen, built according to designs by Diez Brandi , was the first new Evangelical Lutheran church in the city of Göttingen since the Reformation was introduced. It was opened for worship at Christmas 1951. It was not until 1958 that a free-standing bell tower with several rooms for other community purposes was added to the nave. The community center was expanded in the following years to include a day care center for the elderly and a community academy.

The church building also houses the kindergarten under the church room and the parish crèche. The church room is also used by the kindergarten during the week.
