The Griesheim cemetery in Friedhofsweg 10 is a partially listed cemetery in Griesheim .

History and description

The cemetery was laid out in 1903. The cemetery area on the northern edge of Griesheim is approx. 350 m long and approx. 150 m wide. The area is approximately 4.2 hectares. The modern mourning hall is in the south-west corner.

Listed tombs

The almost complete sculptural oeuvre of the Griesheim artist Daniel Dell (1869–1941) is located in the front part of the cemetery . The 55 preserved tombs date from the period between 1905 and 1920. These tombs are made of various stone materials. Stylistically, there is a variety of historicizing and Art Nouveau forms . The tombs are all signed and are mainly located along the cemetery wall.

Daniel Dell's sculptural work was strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau style of the Darmstadt artists' colony . Dell probably worked on the Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt .

Monument protection

For artistic and historical reasons, the tombs of Daniel Dell are under monument protection .
