The Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Schule (short: FALS ) is one of four comprehensive schools in Solingen . The school, named after Friedrich Albert Lange (1828–1875), is attended by about 1,470 students who are taught by about 120 teachers and six trainee teachers. Since the 2008/2009 school year, the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Schule has been one of five sports schools in North Rhine-Westphalia that has been promoting young talent in North Rhine-Westphalia.

history

The comprehensive school was founded at the beginning of the school year 1990/91 in the school building of the former Wald secondary school. An extension building was set up in 1994 because the school has meanwhile been expanded to six trains. Another adjoining building, where classes 5 and 6 are taught today, was inaugurated in 1996. This auxiliary building is located approx. 200 meters from the main building on Schwindstrasse. In 2000 a three-part multi-purpose gym was also built. A new competitive sports hall for the NRW sports students was inaugurated in 2012.

The school today

Upper secondary school

Since the 1996/1997 school year there has been an upper level at the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Schule. Every year over 100 students complete their school career with the Abitur after 13 years (or technical college entrance qualification after 12 years).

NRW sports school

Since August 23, 2007, the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Schule has been one of five NRW sports schools following a decision by the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia. The application with a sports funding concept was made in January 2007 together with the city of Solingen. The first sports classes started in the 2008/2009 school year.

Theater days

Peter Wirtz from the Friedrich-Albert-Lange-Schule in Solingen has been organizing the Theatertage Wald since 1998. As part of this nationally known event, young actors meet international artists. The program of the Walder Theatertage takes place every year from May to July. Amateur theater groups from North Rhine-Westphalia can apply for the Solingen City Prize with their own production. In May, all competition entries will be shown to a jury and the audience in three days. The festival's supporting program is published at the beginning of March. The highlight of the program is a three-day street theater festival around the Walder Church as well as the theater gala in the Pina-Bausch-Saal of the city of Solingen, in which the competition award winners are also published.
