Friedrichstrasse (Westerland)
The Friedrichstrasse is one of the main streets of Westerland on Sylt . It is located in the center of the city and extends Wilhelmstrasse to the spa promenade on the North Sea beach.
Until well into the 19th century, the road was an unpaved and unnamed path. When the municipal administration gave names to the streets of the village in 1888, it was given the name "Friedrichstraße" after two citizens with this first name - Friedrich Wünschmann and Friedrich Erichsen - who made parts of their properties available free of charge for the expansion of the street.
The street soon gained in importance as the town's promenade. Today it is designated as a pedestrian zone and the main shopping street in the city.
