The Fritz-Karsen-Schule (internal school for short FKS) is a community school in the Berlin district of Britz . The school is named after the determined school reformer Fritz Karsen and is in the tradition of the reforms he initiated at the Karl Marx School (Berlin-Neukölln) during the Weimar Republic .
General
Around 1200 pupils are taught at the Fritz Karsen School. The school is the oldest state community school in Germany. Since 2008 the school has had the subtitle "Community school with elementary level and upper secondary school". An extension was completed in 2010 for the upper secondary school. In addition, the school yard was rebuilt from 2009 to 2010.
The school has a total of three locations, all of which are very close to one another. The first location is on Onkel-Bräsig-Straße 76/78. Grades 4 to 13 are taught here. Then there are the rooms at Backbergstrasse 37 and at Fulhamer Allee 30, where classes 1-3 are taught.
history
The Fritz-Karsen-Schule was founded in 1948 as a unified school, at that time still on Britzer Chausseestrasse. In 1949 the school moved to Onkel-Bräsig-Strasse. In 1956 the school was named Fritz Karsen School. In 1992 the school submitted an application for “open all-day operation”. In 2005, classes 1–3 were included in the bound all-day operation. A year later the middle school followed and in 2010 the grades 4-6 followed.
Events
The school has a spring festival, a summer festival and a Christmas festival every year. At the same time as the summer festival there is an annual alumni meeting at the school.
