The Corpus Christi Church in Strzelce Opolskie (Groß Strehlitz) in Upper Silesia is a church building on the edge of the old town with several architectural styles from the first half of the 19th century. It was originally the city's Protestant church and is currently a branch church of the Roman Catholic Laurentius parish . It is dedicated to the feast of the most holy body and blood of Christ .

history

The Evangelical Church of Groß Strehlitz was built from 1825 to 1826 according to the plans of the architects Ernst Samuel Friebl and Christoph Worbs. The church tower was built in 1888.

After the Second World War, the church was still used for Protestant services, but it remained unused from the 1970s. In 1982 the building was handed over to the Roman Catholic parish. An extensive renovation followed from 1982 to 1985. In 1985 it was consecrated as a Catholic Church.

architecture

The Corpus Christi church is a classical building. The church tower, which was added later, was built in the neo-Romanesque style. As a result, it adapts well to the arched windows of the old part. It is built in solid construction and is plastered up to the height of the nave. The individual church tower, however, has a brick facade in the upper part. Above the entrance to the church tower is the metal inscription "Venite Adoremus" ("Come, let us adore"). The furnishings and interior design, however, are kept very simple and are mostly of modern origin. The church windows are colored with scenes.
