The Frontón Astelena ( Basque Astelena pilotalekua ) is a sports arena for the Basque national sport of pelota in the city of Eibar (Spanish Éibar ) in the province of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country Autonomous Community in Spain .

The covered sports arena Astelena with a fronton -Spielfeld 41 x 10 x 10 meters and grandstand seating for 1,300 spectators was built in the late 19th century and opened on 24 June 1904th During the Civil War, Frontón Astelena was a dining room and barracks for soldiers. From 1940 the game was resumed and the Campeonato Manomanista was held.

On December 28, 1969, the arena was closed and renovations were carried out on the steel structure, the glass hall roof and the gable facade. It reopened on October 8, 1972 with a game between "Retegi I" and "Tapia".

Frontón Astelena was also the venue for the Campeonato de Euskadi del Cuatro y Medio in 1956 and 1992 and in the Manomanista category in 1946, 1950, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1960, 1966, 1973 and 1999. Until 2004, various public events were held there , such as celebrations, gatherings and awards ceremonies.

The Astelena sports arena was owned by the Luciano Gaztañatorre and Alberto Vidarte families. In March 2005, there was a disagreement between the owners (60% owned by Gaztañatorre, Bilbao and 40% owned by Vidarte, Eibar) and the arena closed its doors. Twenty-two months later, the city bought the building on Calle Isasi and was open to the public again on May 20, 2007 after the replacement of the artificial turf, the construction of the pool and spa center and the renovation of the facade.
