Frozen food
As frozen food frozen pet food is called, where the term frozen food mainly in the hunting finds.
In the aquarium hobby, almost all food animals are frozen and offered in the trade in appropriate portions. Frozen food is always the second choice after live food , but a long shelf life and non- seasonal availability speak in favor of frozen food. It therefore plays an important role as food for ornamental fish . However, just like with food, consumers should ensure that the cold chain is not interrupted. Frozen food is offered in different types of packaging:
- Chocolate shape: similar to a chocolate bar, you can simply break off the portions. This form is most common in inexpensive varieties.
- Blister form: like a single tablet, the required portion of food can be pushed out of the packaging very cleanly.
- Flat-Pack: the simplest way: the food is simply frozen lying flat in a plastic bag
Frequently offered frozen foods are for example:
- Water fleas ( daphnia )
- Hoppers ( Cyclops )
- Red, white and black mosquito larvae
- Small crabs ( krill , mysis )
- Crab eggs
- Mussel meat
- Squid meat
- Smelt
- Artemia (brine shrimp, Artemia salina)
