The fruit hall in Kaiserslautern was built between 1843 and 1846 according to plans by August von Voit in the style of the Italian early Renaissance . Originally there was a marshland below the building, which is why the fruit hall stands on several pillars. It initially served as a market hall for grain ("fruit"), in 1849 the building was the seat of the Palatinate revolutionary government . After several renovations inside the fruit hall is now used as a municipal event hall for concerts and other cultural offers. It is considered an architectural monument of exceptional rank.

The elongated, three-story building is now on a traffic island in the city center. Stylistically, it is reminiscent of the palazzi of the Florentine early Renaissance. The facade is structured by horizontal sandstone bands and different types of windows. The protruding, gently sloping hipped roof is covered with slate.

On the south-east corner there is a city coat of arms by the Kaiserslautern sculptor Adolf Bernd (1934), next to the south-west corner there is a war memorial for those of the 23rd Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment who fell in World War I (sculptor Sepp Mages , architects Fritz and Hans Seeberger, 1931). The fountain in front of the west facade was originally located on the torch ring (in front of the former Karstadt department store) and was moved here in 1975.

Since the renovation in 1891, there has been a five-aisled ballroom on the upper floor, which extends over two floors with a barrel-vaulted coffered ceiling; the surrounding gallery has a wooden parapet. The plastic jewelry and in particular the Wilhelminian style color scheme with gray and gold were restored during the 2005/2006 restoration.
