Football position

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The football position (actually: German “back grip” or occasionally “baguette position” as a translation from the American) is a position when breastfeeding . The baby's legs lie to the side behind the mother, who wraps around the body like a soccer ball when carried under her arm and supports the child's head so that it can easily reach the nipple (a nursing pillow is ideal here). The advantage compared to the normal breastfeeding position (e.g. cradle) is that the area of the breast facing the arm is emptied well, since the side of the breast that is attacked by the child's jaw is always best emptied during breastfeeding. This position is therefore often recommended for mothers who complain of too much milk and frequent milk congestion or breast infections.
