A pedestrian crossing is in Germany by markings almost exclusively at traffic lights marked area on the street. The ford serves as a guide for pedestrians and other participants as an indication of where to expect pedestrians and is marked by a thin broken line.

A bicycle paths Ford (also called cycle path ford cycling ford or cyclists ford) in Germany a mark that a bike path via a junction lead. The markings underline the priority of cyclists, which must be indicated by traffic signs . In contrast to the pedestrian crossings, they are not only marked at traffic lights, but also when a cycle path or a sidewalk that is cleared for cycle traffic runs along a priority road or a road with other privileges. For Austria, see Cyclist Crossing for more information .

Features of the pedestrian ford

For cross-pedestrian traffic, pedestrian roads are to be set up at traffic lights . Furthermore, crossings that are secured by school guides , school helpers or other traffic aids may be delimited by broken lines. In addition, such marking is not permitted on the streets.

The interrupted cross- markings are usually four meters apart. A stop line (sign 294) must be marked on the roadway at least one meter in front of each pedestrian ford . Only if the ford runs behind an intersection or confluence does the stop line not apply on the side facing the intersection or confluence. The marking has a width of 12 or 15 cm (narrow line). Details are regulated in Germany by the "Guidelines for Marking Roads" (RMS), the " Guidelines for Traffic Light Systems " (RiLSA) and the administrative regulation for the StVO . Sometimes the special pedestrian crossings are marked with special lights at night using light from intense yellow sodium vapor lamps.

The pedestrian ford in Germany has nothing in common with the pedestrian crossing , also known as the "zebra crossing". There are no special ford markings for pedestrians in Austria or Switzerland . Both traffic light-regulated and non-traffic light-regulated pedestrian crossings are marked with zebra crossings, compare the regulations in Austria and Switzerland .

Cycle route fords must be marked on cycle paths on priority roads and on corresponding sidewalks that are open to cyclists. Until September 1, 2009, they also had to be marked with cycle paths at traffic lights.

The interrupted cross markings should generally have a distance of 2 m. Deviating from this, the distance when cycle paths are cleared for two directions is usually 3 m. These details are regulated for Germany in road construction guidelines. The markings are 25 cm wide and have a 20 cm gap every 50 cm. Pedestrian and cycle paths lying next to each other can be separated by a similar mark.
