Man in Fufaika

Fufaika (Cyrillic Фуфайка ) is the Russian name for padded jackets that reach just above the hips and are made in the manner of quilts . The warming or insulating material, mostly nonwovens , which is held in place by the stitching seams, is located between the inner, softer lining material and the tightly woven, linen-like and therefore hard-wearing single-colored outer material .

From autumn to spring , the fufaika was the outer garment most worn by the working people , Red Army soldiers and prisoners of war in the USSR .

Older dictionaries contain the following translations for Fufaika: (Teubner, И.Я. Павловский 1911, Langenscheidt 1911 :) Kamisol , short woolen undercoat; (VEB Enzyklopädie 1963 :) Cardigan , probably only used because of its warmth function.
