The Fukuro Shinai ( Japanese 袋 竹刀 ) is a bamboo sword, covered with leather, which was developed in the Yagyū Shinkage-ryū and is used for training purposes in some Kenjutsu-ryū .

The Fukuru Shinai is made of bamboo . The resilient properties of bamboo ensure that no serious injuries can occur and that the stability is still high enough to practice this contact sport.
Improved versions of Fukuru Shinai were later used in Ono-ha Ittō-ryū and Nakanishi-ha Ittō-ryū .
